iOS 15.4.1 updateiOS 15.4.1 is now available, and it’s a small but critical update for the iPhone. The update fixes a battery drain bug that was causing iPhone models to lose battery power quickly. The company has also released a similar update—iPadOS 15.4.1—for iPad users.

After updating to iOS 15.4, which Apple released on March 14, 2022, several users started noticing that their iPhone was losing power faster than the normal rate. Many iPad users were also dealing with the same issue, which is not a big surprise given that iOS and iPadOS share a significant codebase. So both iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1 are essential updates for iPhone and iPad users.

Apart from fixing the unusual battery drain, the update also brings fixes for some accessibility bugs and security enhancements, according to a report by The Verge. Unfortunately as always, the official Apple update changelog isn’t very detailed.

“iOS 15.4.1 includes bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone and is recommended for all users,” Apple says.

Fortunately, the security changelog does mention that it fixes a vulnerability in Apple’s audio and video decoding framework (AppleAVD). It was being exploited in the wild, another big reason to apply the update quickly.

The same security vulnerability is also present on macOS, so Apple has released a similar update—macOS Monterey 12.3.1—for its computers. The macOS update also fixes a vulnerability present in the Intel Graphics Driver for Intel-powered Macs.

You can update your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Once you are on the software update screen, Apple will look for the update and let you know that iOS 15.4.1/ iPadOS 15.4.1 is available. Hit “Download and Install” to begin the process.
