Amazon Fire 7 has gotten a significant upgrade for the first time in three years. It’s the company’s cheapest tablet, and for what it costs, the tablet is pretty decent. It’s no iPad killer or anything like that. But if you need a tablet for media consumption, occasional browsing, or playing casual games, the Fire 7 is a good option. In addition, if you are planning to buy a tablet for your child, the Fire 7 also comes in a Kids edition that includes a rubber bumper case, one year of Amazon’s Kids+ service, and a two-year warranty. The regular Fire 7 only has a 90-day warranty with optional extended warranty upgrades for one, two, or three years.

Amazon Fire 7 price, availability

Amazon Fire 7 price starts at $59.99 for the base version with 16GB of storage and lock-screen advertisements. The 32GB version with ads will cost you $79.99. However, if you don’t want to see ads, you can pick the “Without Lockscreen Ads” version, priced at $74.99 for the 16GB model and $94.99 for the 32GB model.

The Fire 7 is currently on preorder, and it will start shipping on June 29. You can buy from Amazon.com, Amazon UK, and Amazon Canada. It’s also available in Germany, France, Japan, Spain, and Italy. The pricing is different for each market.

Amazon Fire 7 Kids price, availability

Amazon Fire 7 Kids price starts at $109.99 for the 16GB model. You can buy the 32GB version at $129.99. There are no ads on the kids version, which, alongside the extended warranty, bumper case, and Kids+ service, are the reason for its higher price tag.

Like the regular Fire 7, the Kids version is also on preorder, and it will start shipping on June 29. You can order it from Amazon.com, Amazon UK, and Amazon Canada. The tablet is also available to buy in Germany, Italy, Japan, France, and Spain.

Specifications

Being an entry-level, the Fire 7 has a fairly modest set of features and specifications. The tablet has a 7-inch 1024×600 pixels IPS screen, 2GB of RAM, up to 32GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. A 2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8168V/B processor powers the tablet, and it runs on Android 11-based Fire OS 8. Fire OS doesn’t include Google services and Play Store. Instead, you get access to Amazon AppStore, which has a reasonably large collection of apps and games.

The tablet has dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), Bluetooth 5.0 LE, and USB Type-C port in terms of connectivity. The USB-C port is also used for charging. Unfortunately, there is no fast charging support. The tablet will take around four hours to charge with the bundled 5W charger.

Lastly, there are two 2MP cameras on the tablet, one on the front and the other on the back. You can use these to make video calls, take selfies, or other photographs.

If you want a bigger screen than Fire 7’s 7-inch, Amazon also offers 8-inch Fire HD 8, and 10-inch Fire HD 10. Apart from 1GB extra RAM in the 10-inch model, all three tablets have pretty much the same specification.
